NEW BRIDGELUX PRE-WIRED LED ARRAYS FURTHER SIMPLIFY DESIGN INTEGRATION, ACCELERATE TIME TO MARKET FOR LUMINAIRE MANUFACTURERS

Livermore, Calif. – December 01, 2010 – Bridgelux Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of LED lighting technologies and solutions, is further simplifying the LED light source integration process for luminaire manufacturers with the introduction of new wiring options for its rectangular ES and RS Array Series’ solid state light sources. This option further enhances the plug and play simplicity delivered by these arrays, helping to facilitate quick design cycles and ease system-level integration challenges for Bridgelux customers.

The new wiring option provides two wires soldered to the electrical contact pads on the LED Arrays. This wiring option may be ordered with all Bridgelux rectangular ES and RS Array Series, which deliver between 800 to 4500 operational lumens in all available color temperatures. Providing pre-wired Arrays simplifies the electrical integration of the light source into the lamp or luminaire, enabling Bridgelux customers to use interconnection methods common to the lighting industry and avoid introducing soldering processes in their factories.

“Our primary focus at Bridgelux is to make LED technology easy to use for our general lighting customers,” said Mick Wilcox, Bridgelux product manager. “Providing this wiring option eliminates manufacturing process steps, and reduces product development risks and overall system costs. Our customers can bring new energy-efficient, high quality lighting products to market faster to meet the rapidly increasing market demand for solid state lighting.”

NEW BRIDGELUX LED ARRAYS DOUBLE LIGHT OUTPUT OF TODAY’S COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE LED PRODUCTS

New Portfolio Additions Deliver 3500 to 8000 Lumen Output Arrays

Livermore, Calif., January 31, 2011 – Bridgelux Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of LED lighting technologies and solutions, today announced the expansion of its award-winning RS LED Array portfolio to include the industry’s highest performance LED products designed for very high lumen applications such as retail shop lighting, high-bay, roadway, exterior area and industrial lighting applications.

Shattering industry standards for light output performance while significantly improving efficacy and further reducing the cost of solid-state light (SSL), the new RS Arrays deliver 3500 to 8000 operational lumens, an extended range of color temperatures including warm, neutral and cool white (2700K to 5600K), and multiple color rendering indices (CRI) options, further increasing choices for high quality lighting. These LED arrays both simplify and enable rapid development of new high-lumen LED products accelerating the ability for solid state lighting to replace high wattage HID luminaires, providing safer operation and reducing payback periods to as little as 2 years. These high flux density sources enable precision lighting previously impossible with lower power solid state lighting technology, opening up new markets to solid state lighting.

“With the new RS Arrays, Bridgelux continues to advance its reputation as a manufacturer of high quality, leading-edge LED lighting solutions for a broad range of indoor and outdoor applications,” said Jason Posselt, vice president of global marketing. “Leveraging the significant success of previous product generations, the RS Arrays are uniquely designed to help our customers quickly and cost-effectively introduce new products targeting an increasing number of lighting applications.”

“As we initiated the design of our NEVALO SSL System for interior lighting applications the new additions to the Bridgelux RS Array series provided the best solution for the high light density versions of our new lighting module, launched today,” said Bruce Pelton, chief technology officer for the Tyco Electronics Lighting Division. “The Bridgelux team not only worked with us to meet our initial LED light source requirements but also demonstrated a product roadmap to provide an increasingly broad range of light output, CRI and efficacy options to meet the future requirements of our lamp and luminaire customers.”

BRIDGELUX DEMONSTRATES DRAMATIC ADVANCEMENTS IN GaN-ON-SILICON TECHNOLOGY FOR SOLID STATE LIGHTING

Demonstration Represents Industry’s First Commercial Grade Performance For Silicon-Based LED

Livermore, Calif., March 8, 2011- Bridgelux Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of LED lighting technologies and solutions, announced today that it has achieved a major breakthrough with the demonstration of 135 Lumens per Watt GaN-on-Silicon based LED Technology. This represents the industry’s first commercial grade performance for a Silicon-based LED.

When grown at scale, most LED epitaxial wafers use sapphire or silicon carbide substrates as the starting material. But large diameter sapphire and silicon carbide substrates are costly, difficult to process, and not widely available. As a result, production costs have inhibited the widespread adoption of LED lighting in homes and commercial buildings. But growing GaN on larger, low-cost silicon wafers that are compatible with modern semiconductor manufacturing can deliver a 75% improvement in cost over current approaches.

The 135 Lumen per Watt performance was achieved at a CCT of 4730K using a single 1.5mm power LED operated at 350mA. These LEDs have extremely low operating voltages, requiring just 2.90V at 350mA and <3.25V at 1 Amp. The low forward voltage and excellent thermal resistance of the devices make them ideally suited for high-performance, illumination-grade applications. Optimization of the epitaxy process on 8-inch Si wafers will make LED manufacturing compatible with existing automated semiconductor lines.

The move to a Silicon substrate will be a revolutionary step for the LED industry, and Bridgelux is well- positioned to take full advantage of the introduction of this technology. Over the past 5 years, Dr. Steve Lester, one of the industry’s pioneers in LED Research and Development, has fostered a world-class team of Bridgelux materials scientists and chip design engineers dedicated to GaN-on-Silicon R&D. Concurrently, industry-wide research and development of GaN growth on Silicon has increased rapidly. And as a result, the GaN on Silicon performance levels reported by Bridgelux today are comparable to state-of-the-art sapphire-based LEDs available 12-24 months ago. The company anticipates the delivery of its first commercially available GaN-on-Silicon products over the course of the next two to three years.

Bridgelux, which maintains an asset-light operating model, will leverage its strong R&D and Intellectual Property position in LED epitaxy to jointly manufacture silicon based LEDs. The company is currently in discussions with a number of established semiconductor companies regarding the utilization of the many fully depreciated 8-inch semiconductor fabrication operations available around the globe.

“Bridgelux’s achievement is a significant reflection of the strength of our leadership in Silicon materials and epitaxial process technology, said Bill Watkins, Bridgelux CEO. “The significantly reduced cost-structures enabled by Silicon-based LED technology will continue to deliver dramatic reductions in the up-front capital investment required for solid state lighting. In as little as two to three years, even the most price-sensitive markets, such as commercial and office lighting, residential applications, and retrofit lamps will seamlessly and rapidly convert to solid state lighting.”
