New human centric lighting options help customers navigate the next phase of LED lighting

Fremont, California – October 10, 2019 – Enabling LED industry transformation for over 15 years, Bridgelux today reinforced its focus and commitment to the lighting market with the commercial availability of Thrive™ surface mount device (SMD) 2835 and V Series™ chip-on-board (COB) parts.  Thrive white point options are designed to closely match the spectra of natural light by reducing blue spikes and cyan valleys, and providing full spectrum, human centric LED lighting solutions.

The loss of natural light benefits affects those who spend most of their time indoors, with office workers being one of the groups especially at risk.  According to Harvard Business Review, the “health benefits of access to natural light are causing some firms to re-imagine their workspace and tout this as a recruiting tool.”1  The lighting industry is moving beyond the efficacy race and towards human centric lighting solutions incorporating circadian elements that may impact well-being for anyone spending extended periods of time indoors.

First announced in March 2019, Thrive uses proprietary chip, phosphor and packaging technologies to deliver a close spectral match to natural light.  The high-fidelity spectral output of Thrive creates stunning environments with excellent color rendering and outstanding TM-30 metrics.  Unlike other high CRI light sources, Thrive has been engineered specifically to provide a close and continuous match to natural light across the visible wavelength range to enable the next wave of innovation in the lighting market: human centric lighting.

Thrive SMD 2835 1W 9V and V10C are now available for ordering.  Additional SMD 2835 and V Series form factors will be available in late Q4 and early Q1 2020.

“Today’s announcement reflects our pledge to customers to deliver a clear path toward flexible, interoperable solutions to meet lighting requirements that demand natural-looking light, particularly projects in the office, education, healthcare, residential and retail markets,” said Dr. Brian Cumpston, Vice President of Solutions Development at Bridgelux.  “We are a technology partner committed to delivering new LED light source solutions as our roadmap evolves, including an expansion of Thrive white options onto our Vesta® Series and EB Series™ tunable white light sources, and the expanding family of high efficacy SMD products.”

Bridgelux also announced performance upgrades to its SMD 2835 delivering up to 221 lumens/watt (lm/W), and to its SMD 4014, now delivering up to 190 lm/W, both in 4000K 80 CRI with a variety of 80 and 90 CRI color point options available.  These highly efficient light sources are useful for a range of lighting applications including office, retail, residential and architectural lighting, further assisting customers to meet ever evolving regulatory based efficacy requirements.

SMD 2835 (21M-3DA) and 4014 (11L-3C) are immediately available for ordering.

Bridgelux Vesta® Flex connects life and light through a simple, flexible driver and control system

FREMONT, Calif. – May 20, 2019 – Bridgelux today announced Vesta® Flex, an innovative family of dual channel LED drivers and control modules designed to simplify and reduce the cost of connected tunable white luminaires.  Immediately compatible with industry standard wired and wireless lighting control protocols including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) and 0-10V, the Vesta Flex system enables simplified, future-ready design flexibility for OEM luminaire manufactures to meet the needs of their end customers without requiring redesign or recertification.

The design flexibility of Vesta Flex includes separate control modules and drivers that are connected using a CAT5 network cable through a robust RJ45 terminal.  This structure allows customers to select their protocol of choice, luminaire manufacturers to quickly react to the needs of multiple lighting projects and allows Bridgelux to expand into additional protocols in the future.  All Vesta Flex control options provide independent tuning of intensity and correlated color temperature (CCT).  Customers will never again feel locked in to a proprietary system or obliged to just one standard or protocol.

Components within the Vesta Flex family available now include:

  • 30W and 60W brick and 60W linear driver options with NFC-programmable maximum currents and dimming curves, including smooth dimming to 0.1% and dim-to-off options
  • Bluetooth mesh control module operating on Bluetooth Low Energy (4.2) protocol for industrial grade intelligent mesh networking managed through a mobile app
  • Dual mode Wi-Fi and Bluetooth control module for luminaire management and communication with sensors, also managed through a mobile app
  • Dual channel analog control module for CCT tuning and intensity dimming using a linear tuning range of 1.0 to 9.0 VDC, compatible with current sourcing or current sinking control devices
  • DALI DT8 control module for CCT tuning and intensity dimming functionality, also compatible with industry standard current sourcing or current sinking control devices
  • Complete compatibility with Bridgelux Vesta Series Tunable White array and linear LED light sources with tuning ranges from 2700 to 6500 Kelvin (K)

“Providing flexible solutions is all about removing obstacles so people can experience the benefits of human centric lighting.  With Bridgelux as their single supplier, our customers now have access to an interoperable family of plug-and-play control options guaranteed to work with our high quality light engines out-of-the-box and to simplify their entire design process,” said Tim Lester, Bridgelux Chief Executive Officer.  “We expect the Vesta Flex family will work for our customers to save them time and reduce cost and complexity, while enabling high quality of light that is controllable and appealing.”

Vesta Flex will be demonstrated at LIGHTFAIR International this week in the Bill Brown Sales booth (401.)  Vesta Flex driver and control parts are now available for sampling.  Vesta Series Tunable White array and linear light sources are available for sampling and ordering.

FREMONT, Calif. – March 12, 2019 – Bridgelux today announced Thrive, a family of white point options for surface mount devices (SMD), V Series™, Vero® Series and Vesta® Series chip-on-board (COB) products designed to closely mimic the sun and provide a new class of full spectrum, human centric light emitting diode (LED) white point solutions.

Using proprietary chip, phosphor and manufacturing technologies, Thrive closely mimics the spectra of the sun without violet light augmentation.  Thrive produces lower blue light intensity at shorter wavelengths and delivers a smoother spectrum over the visual wavelength range, enabling a close spectral match to sunlight.  Thrive offers:

  • full spectrum 95 CRI light quality with similar efficacy compared to 90 CRI light sources
  • excellent CRI and TM30 metrics with R1 to R15 greater than 92, Rf 96-98 and Rg 99-102
  • lower Circadian Action Factor (CAF) and Melanopic Ratios (MR) in warm white color points, and higher CAF and MR values in neutral and cool white color points, which are optimized for human well-being
  • 2700K, 3000K, 4000K, 5000K, 5700K, 6500K CCT options

“We believe Thrive white points may be effective in a variety of applications including hospitals, residential, offices, education, and museums.  So many of us spend a large portion of our time indoors without the benefit of natural light.  Thrive improves our indoor experiences under artificial lighting with its vivid color rendering and close match to the natural light provided by the sun,” said Dr. Brian Cumpston, Vice President of Solutions at Bridgelux.  “With the ongoing awareness and interest in human centric lighting solutions, we believe Thrive will assist lighting manufacturers to incorporate circadian features into their products as the lighting market continues to evolve.”

Thrive white points are now available for sampling on SMD 2835 1W 9V and V Series 10C.  Additional Thrive SMD and COB product options will be available for sampling in Q2.

Inquiries about Thrive can be directed to pr@bridgelux.com or in person at LEDucation in New York on March 12 and 13 in booth AH 3102.
