Application Note AN81 - Handling and Assembly of Bridgelux H Series™ LED Arrays

Bridgelux H Series, an ultra-high lumen density COB product line, is designed for high intensity spot lights used in retail and commercial settings.

H Series arrays replace ceramic metal halide lamps by providing equal or greater center beam candle power (CBCP) at higher efficiency and at twice the lifetime. Their tight beam control and exceptional quality of light is well suited for show-case grade directional spot applications.

Optimizing the performance and reliability of a lighting system using H Series arrays requires careful consideration of thermal management solutions, electronic drivers and secondary optics. It is equally important to use safe handling and appropriate manufacturing procedures, processes and chemicals during the assembly of H Series arrays into the lighting system.

This application note provides recommendations for proper mechanical and electrical assembly of H Series arrays into lighting systems. Guidelines for chemical exposure and handling are included to avoid damaging the arrays during the assembly process. Recommended assembly procedures to ensure a reliable electrical connection to the array driver and a mechanically robust, thermally efficient contact between the array and underlying heat sink are also provided.
