Project Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Manager plays a critical role in our Smart Lighting Development Team based in the financial district of San Francisco.  

We are looking for candidates with three or more years of professional experience which includes a combination of interacting with third party suppliers/contractors, project management, and understanding of development activities related to electronic devices (PCBA design and manufacturing, Mechanical Enclosures, Firmware, Quality, Reliability, etc)

The primary responsibilities of the Project Manager include 1) Being the primary point of contact for any project related activity 2) Being the relationship manager (within internal departments and with third party suppliers and contractors) and 3) Serving as the day-to-day project manager for the system implementation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage projects relentlessly and professionally, from project planning and initiation through implementation and closure.
  • Be well versed and experienced in project management 101. You must know:
  1. how to execute projects according to a determined timeline, methodology, scope, and budget,
  2. how to track and report on progress, risk, and other issues,
  3. when to diffuse issues or risks and when to escalate them, and
  4. how to maintain quality control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate sessions with project stakeholders (internal and external) to outline scope, goals, deliverables, resource needs, and timelines.
  • Leads the team to resolve issues and communicate risks in meeting project goals. 
  • Be ready, willing, and able to track and document everything that happens on the project.
  • Communicates project status to team members and leadership, including escalation of risks/issues needing senior leadership assistance to resolve.
  • Candidate must be able to work "off" hours at least 25% of the time since this position will work with international contract manufacturers mainly in China.
  • Detailed management of the Bill of Materials (BOM) of electronic projects in early stages of development prior to hand off to the operations department.
  • Be eager and able to help develop tools, best practices, and documentation for project management and related processes, as necessary

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years of professional experience, which includes at minimum 1 year from each of the following areas 1) managing projects, 2) participating in and/or driving implementations, and 3) interfacing with third party suppliers and contractors
  • Meticulously detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, quickly process information, and demonstrate a dedication to ensuring and maintaining the quality of the end product
  • Inherent ability to think two steps ahead of the current stage of a project and take proactive steps to address roadblocks, issues, and distractions internally and with third parties
  • Strong project management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines, and a willingness to accept a wide range of responsibilities
  • A track record of being a team player and leader with strong interpersonal skills and a talent for collaboration
  • Be a problem-solver who has a demonstrated ability to overcome challenges with creative solutions
  • Excel at both written and verbal communication
  • Be a self-motivated, independent worker and thinker with a positive attitude
  • Strong technical acumen in areas related to electronic gadgets development and manufacturing.
  • Strong familiarity with project management tools and methodologies
  • Cross-functional team leadership in delivering quality products, and making appropriate trade-offs
  • Ability to influence people at all levels across a broad variety of job functions
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills along with multitasking capabilities to get things done in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to travel overseas once per quarter (one or two weeks at a time, mainly to China).
