Photometry Lab Technician

JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for the set-up and testing of lighting devices, luminaires, LED modules, etc. using state-of-the-art photometric measuring equipment, including computer controlled goniophotometer, integrating sphere and other misc. testing equipment. Job requires knowledge and experience to setup and perform LM-79 certification testing and generate photometric test reports. Job includes measuring electrical parameters of lighting devices, luminaires, LED modules, LED arrays, etc. using laboratory power supplies, volt and amp “multi” meters and other typical laboratory test and measurement equipment.  Job also requires use of hand tools, such as a drill, saw, lathe, grinders, dremmell, and soldering equipment. This position reports to Application Laboratory amanger and is located in Levermore, CA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform photometric tests. Write clear reports and make crisp presentations of results and conclusions. Prepare LM-79 test reports
  • Communicate and work collaboratively within the group and across the company
  • Assist in keeping test equipment in top condition, calibrated, and take responsibility for a clean and well run laboratory
  • Give direction and when necessary assist Technician on needs/requirements for affixing lighting fixtures/devices to goniophotometer4
  • Help prepare jigs and mounting platforms for affixing test-fixtures to the test equipment
  • Responsible for interpreting test results; use test results to gauge luminaire effectiveness, advise on possible corrective action and improvements to increase product efficiency, discuss and review results and/or corrective action with department head

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 years Photometric Lab experience or similar background
  • Familiar with IESNA, CIE and EN measurement protocols
  • Familiar with test plan orientation, polar and orthogonal coordinate systems
  • Skilled in use of photometric software, e.g. Photometric Pro, Dialux, among others
  • Good team work and communication skills
  • Must have manual dexterity and the ability to lift 40lb.
