Founded in late
2002, Bridgelux is privately held and headquartered in the heart of
Silicon Valley (Sunnyvale, Calif.) The company was the brainchild
of visionaries focused on accelerating the evolution of solid-state
lighting (SSL). Specifically, as one of the few industries within
the electronics sector to witness explosive growth over the past few
years, the LED market holds tremendous opportunities and is growing
at rapid-fire pace.
LED-based lighting technologies offer myriad advantages over current
fluorescent and incandescent solutions, including reliability and
light quality, along with superior energy efficiency. As a result,
LEDs have quickly captured dominant shares of the mobile appliance
backlighting and camera flash markets, and are rapidly appearing in
small, mid- and large-area displays. While not yet widely available
for consumer lighting needs, the current generation of environment-friendly
SSL technologies deliver efficiencies that exceed those of incandescent
lighting products, and have recently begun to rival many fluorescent
solutions in industrial and commercial applications. In addition,
LED lighting solutions do not contain the environmentally damaging
substances found in fluorescent bulbs.
Bridgelux is committed to tackling this market head-on through its
enabling platform of LED solutions. To this end, the company developed
its proprietary InGaN (indium gallium nitride) power LED chip and
is currently delivering millions of these chips every month to customers
worldwide. Customers leverage Bridgelux’s LED chips to replace
traditional bulb technologies, with solid-state products that provide
a powerful and energy-efficient source of blue, green or white light.
Bridgelux chips are currently found in mobile appliances, signage,
automotive and various general lighting applications.
Not the traditional LED company, Bridgelux has a unique integration
strategy, which will allow the company to significantly broaden its
customer base, increase overall value and accelerate revenue growth
by delivering quality light sources at a low cost per lumen—a
strategy the company call its ‘penny-per-lumen’ vision.
To this end, the company is committed to making LED technology affordable
without sacrificing quality, performance or jeopardizing the environment.
