Failure Analysis Engineer

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Product Engineering Manager, this position will be responsible to drive/perform failure analysis of customer returns and product issues, investigate root causes and recommend corrective actions for quality improvement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage all failure analysis requests from internal and external customers.
• Correspond with internal and external customers to obtain and communicate essential information related to customer complaints.
• Interact with cross-functional teams to ensure timely failure analysis and root cause investigations related to customer complaints in compliance to Quality System Regulations.
• Identify and support corrective and preventive actions through failure analysis.
• Document failure analysis requests using 8D method and communicate with customers if needed to close up the cases.
• Conduct statistical analyses of field failure rate and failure modes.
• Expand in house failure analysis capabilities.
• Identify external labs for more complex failure analysis.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• The ideal candidate should be capable of performing hands on root cause failure analysis of LED products.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of operation of laboratory tools (SEM, EDX, X-Ray, sample prep, cross-sectioning, optoelectronic testing etc.).
• Education: BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Applied Physics or a similar technical field.
• Minimum 5 years of failure analysis lab experience with optoelectronic devices.
• Understanding of LED device, LED packaging and LED testing required.
• Knowledge of failure mode effects and analysis (FMEA), reliability testing and field failures.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (customers, peers, management and manufacturers).
